Friday 22nd May

It is Friday- the last day of our half term. Time for a break for a week. Well done with all the home learning you have done: we are very proud of you.

With the end of Ramadan approaching, we would like to wish our families celebrating Eid at the weekend 'Eid Mubarak' and that you all have a happy time despite this year being very different to the way you may have celebrated in  other years.

May you all take care over the half term break and stay safe. We look forward to our last half term together - however this might look for us all.

Thursday 21st May

This week also has been busy in the night sky. The International Space Station is currently passing over the UK at around 10pm  which is quite late! Do you remember Tim Peake travelled to the ISS last year and stayed on board? The ISS appears as very bright yellow light ( as it is 250 miles up) and moves very quickly  (17,500 miles an hour). It is travelling towards the east. It will continue to do this for the rest of this week and next. Look out for link to the times on the 'Useful Websites' page.

Wednesday 20th May

Did you know that it was World Bee Day today? It celebrates not just honeybees but also bumblebees (21 species) and 77 other species too! Bees are crucial for pollinating plants-  a third of the food we eat and 80% of flowering plants! According to latest reports, the population is depleting and the UK has lost 13 species. However, my garden seems full of them! Have you seen any? I wonder which type this is? Let me know what you think.

Midweek approaching already! With half term in mind, there are some more links on the 'Useful Websites' page under Week 7 in our Year 6 tab to keep you busy. If anyone tries out 'How to take great pictures of your pet', be sure to send them to us through the school email. Not exctly my pet, but this photograph is one of the many bees I saw early this morning!

Hope you have managed to be out in the lovely sunshine today.

Tuesday 19th May

Well, the timing could not be better for this!

On the week that we study celebrations, we are delighted to let you know that everyone who submitted a persuasive poster for the Salmon in Stour project with the Birmingham and Black Country area of The Wildlife Trusts will be receiving a prize for their entry and school will receive a bug hotel!

A special WELL DONE to all of you that entered.

The aim was to encourage visitors to the river valley to behave responsibly and have an awareness of the living things that need protecting in our local area. The plan was to display the winning entry in the Stour Valley area but due to the current conditions, this plan is now sadly not possible. As a way of displaying and celebrating your work, it is now on virtual display @SalmonStour and the local Environmental Agency site. See the school facebook page for more links.

Thank you to Simon Atkinson, Head of Conservation at BBC The Wildlife Trusts for all his support.

We will let you know when the prizes arrive and work out a way of safely getting these to you.

Remember that you can share your work through the school info box email. It has been great to hear from you.

Monday 18th May

Hello Year 6,

Here we are on the last week of the half term. Well done with all your home learing so far. We have been very pleased to hear how you have been approaching this. This picture of otters on the tab for the week, is from Robert McFarlene's 'The Lost Words' poetry book. Do you remember looking at this? They are painted in watercolour by Jackie Morris. She also illustrated 'The Ice Bear' that you read last year.

This week's theme is 'Celebrations'. The usual way of celebrating is not possible at the moment and many of you have had to adapt these plans to make them safe. This week, we will find out interesting things about our birth dates and what other people celebrate around the world.

Have a good week.

Take care,

Mrs Whyatt and Mrs Rees
