Phonics

Hi everyone! I hope you are all keeping safe and healthy and have had a lovely Easter (hopefully with some yummy Easter treats!). Welcome back to a new term, I would much rather be greeting you all face to face and hearing about your Easter Holidays but for now this is how it's got to be in order to keep us safe. This half term our topic would be all about being 'In the Garden' so we will be losely basing some activities on this from time to time as hopefully lot's of you are managing to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather.

So... for Phonics today, to get your brains working again I want you to get out your sounds sheet from your home learning pack and practise saying each sound to an adult. If you are unsure what they are you can find them in the grid below and parents if you would like to check the pronounciation of sounds then it can be found here:

I would then like you to practise the following green words:

grass sun hot
tree flower plant

and now see if you can read the following alien words:

pleep denk tob
strub jair bip

Maths

For todays maths I would like you to start exploring the idea of doubles, when we double a number we are making twice as many, muliplying the number by 2. Today I would like you to use any objects you can get your hands on, blocks, toy animals, socks, beads and choose a number - count out that number of objects and then double it, count it out again. You should have two sets of the same object, count how many there are altogether now we have doubled it. Choose a different number and try it again. It might also be fun to use a mirror if you have one, count out your objects and place a mirror next to them - count how many objects you have in front of you and in the mirror.

Expressive Art and Design

Google pictures of butterflies or look at the ones below and discuss how both wings are identicle - this means they are symmetrical (where something is the same on both sides). If you have access to paint I would like you to use paint to make symetrical butterflies, to do this you need to fold a piece of paper in half, draw two butterfly wings (one on each half of the paper) then paint a pattern on only ONE side of the sheet then fold it over and press down. Open it up to reveal a symmetrical butterfly. Repeat with different colours/patterns. If you do not have access to paint then draw a butterfly shape and then try to draw the same pattern on each side, if you have coloured pencils try to colour it the same on both wings.

Phonics/ Writing

Morning everyone, hope you enjoyed your work and making your butterflies yesterday. Today I would like you to look at the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', if you have the book at home I would like you to read it with an adult or you can watch the Youtube video of it (link below). Once you have watched or read the story I would like you to discuss with an adult what types of fruit/food he ate, then I would like you to choose 3 and write them in a list. If you are feeling particularly clever today then you could try to write 5 or more however I would like everyone to write at least 3, concentrate on hearing the initial sound in each word and then all the sounds that come after it, don't forget to use your phonics.

Maths

I would like you to watch the Numberblocks episode 'Double Trouble' (link below). Take particular notice of what the numbers turn into when they are doubled. At the end of the video I would like you to write down all the doubles that were made during the film in the form of a number sentence (e.g. 1 + 1 = 2), you could do this by rewatching the video and pausing after each double is made or you could use objects like yesterday to make the doubles first and then write them down.

Understanding the World

As we are beginning to learn about caterpillars and butterflies I would like you to study the picture below and watch the video provided which describes the lifecycle of a butterfly. I would then like you to try and remember the 4 main stages and draw a diagram like the one below to show each stage.

Homework

Today I have a little homework for you too, I need you to go on a little walk, either in your garden or just outside your house (make sure you have an adult with you) and I would like you to find and collect some natural materials, as many different things as you can such as sticks, leaves, stones, pine cones, grass. You will need these for tomorrow's activities so keep them safe!

Wednesday 22nd April

Phonics

Hi everyone! I have a fun game for you to play for phonics today, the game is called 'Full Circle'. You must start the game with a word, for example 'ship' then you must change one sound in that word to make a new word, for example you could change the 'sh' to a 'ch' and create the word 'chip'. I want you to see if you can create as many words as you can and then try and get back to your original word 'ship'. Parents there is a youtube video linked below explaining how to play and also a document with a list of words you can use (only give your child the first word in the list) this game might require a bit of support but children need to be using their phonics and their 'Fred Fingers' to spell out and read the words.

Maths

Today I would like you to create some ladybirds, ladybirds have the same number of spots on both sides which means we have to double a number to get the correct amount of spots. Get an adult to draw you a ladybird outline or have a go yourself (there is one below to help you), put some spots on one side of the ladybird, you could do this by drawing them on, painting them on, using pom poms, buttons, beads or anything else round you have in the house. Once you have placed the number of spots on one side I want you to double it and put the same amount on the other side, how many does the ladybird now have altogether? I would like you to have a go at writing the number sentence to go with it, for example if you gave the ladybird 4 spots on each side your number sentence would look like this: 4 + 4 = 8.

Expressive Art and Design/ Understanding the World

Remember those natural objects I asked you to collect yesterday? Well we will need them now, today you are going to create your face from those natural materials you have collected. I want you to study your face in a mirror and name everything you see, e.g. nose, mouth, eyebrows, eyes, eye lashes, absolutely everything, the more detail the better! I then want you to create your face using those materials, there is a link below to a video where a lady will explain and show you exactly how to do it.

Thursday 23rd April

Phonics /Reading

Good morning everyone! Hope you are all well and had a lovely Easter.

This morning in phonics, we are going to look at a the phoneme f and the trigraph air. Trigraph is when there are 3 letters to make a sound. First I want you to watch these clips.

Now have a go at this game. Play it with the f sound and the air. The game is a bit like the 'Buried Treasure' game but this time it uses dragons in their den.

To go on the f game. Click start. Then phase 2 and then f.

To go on the air game. Click start. Then phase 3 and then air.

If you would like a challenge try this link.

To go on the challenge game. Click start. Then phase 4. I would like the children to have a go at cvcc words with set 1-7 please.

How did you all do? I bet you were brilliant!

Maths

This week we have been looking at doubles and you have been doubling numbers. Have a look at the video below and see if you can remember the song. Can you join in?

Now I would like you to have a go at doubling numbers. If you have a dice at home, I want you to roll it, count the spots and then double that number. See if you can roll all the numbers.

If you haven't got a dice, get 6 pieces of paper. Write 1 on one piece, 2 on another, 3 on the next. Carry on until you get to 6. Turn them over, get someone to muddle them up. Turn over each piece of paper. See if you can work out the doubles for each number.

You can use your fingers like in the 'Number Rumba' song. What can you do with double 6 ? Maybe you could draw dots.

Did you work out double 6?

Physical Development

Do you remember doing yoga on our Mindfulness and Well Being day? I've found some Butterfly yoga for you to try. Make sure you're wearing comfy clothes so you can really have a good go at the positions.

Understanding of the World/Expressive Arts and Design

With this beautiful weather I have noticed there are lots of butterflies around. They don't all look the same. There are lots of different ones. In your garden or on your exercise walk have a look for butterflies.

When you get back home have a look at the pictures below and see if you saw any.You could draw or paint a picture of them. You could send it to someone you haven't seen for a while to let them know you are thinking about them.

When you finished Have a look at the link below. It has a song and pictures of different caterpillars, cocoons and butterflies.

Friday April 24th

Phonics/Reading

Good morning. It's Friday!

How did get on yesterday with your butterfly hunt? Did you see any? Did you see any that were different than those on the slide?

Have a go at these short online stories.

Parents, please turn off the volume so it encourages the children to read each sentence for 'The Big Hit'. The volume is good for the introduction of 'Pete's Sheep'. The children don't have to read all of them but I've hopefully put on something to suit every child.

Maths

In Maths today, I would like you to watch the Hungry Caterpillar story. While you are watching it, write down the number of pieces of fruit he eats on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Did you get to write those 5 numbers down?

Ok. This is what I would like you to do now. I want you to double the number of apples he ate and draw a picture of the apples. Do the same for the pears, the plums, the strawberries and the oranges.

Don't worry if you have forgotten how to double.Take a look at the Number Rumba clip from yesterday.

Physical Development

Parents, Physical Development is not just about moving around. It also includes using equipment safely, knowing basic hygiene rules and knowing food that is healthy or unhealthy. This is what we are going to look at today. If you could write down what they say whilst chatting during this task that will be really helpful when we come to see you again

Children the Hungry Caterpillar ate lots of fruit on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Fruit is really good for you. Fruit can help keep coughs and colds away, make your eyes sparkly and your hair shiny.

Can you tell an adult what other foods are healthy?

What foods are unhealthy? Why?

Ok children, today I would like you to make a fruit salad with an adult. It doesn't have to be the same fruit as the Hungry Caterpillar. It can be any that you have in the house. If you haven't got any at the moment, have a go at this when your adult has managed to get to the shops or has a delivery. If this activity isn't possible, don't worry. You can draw a picture of an imaginary fruit salad.

What do we need to do children before we handle food?

Parents, please don't worry if the task is not possible. They can draw a picture of an imaginary fruit salad. If you can do it, try and allow the children to peel and cut up the fruit themselves with your supervision of course. If you can, please take photos for their book. It's not a problem if you can't.

Once you've eaten or drawn your fruit salad. Here is a Come Outside clip all about Butterflies.

Well Children, hope you've enjoyed today's learning. It's Saturday tomorrow and then Sunday and we haven't got school then. Saturday and Sunday together is called the weekend. So we will see you on Monday. Have a lovely weekend and stay safe.
