Phonics

Choose a word from a book and try to think of as many words you can make rhyme with it. Children should attempt to write the words down using their phonic knowledge.

Maths

Explore your house and find as many different shaped objects as you can e.g. square mirror, circle plate. Identify the shape and describe it.

Curriculum - Under The Sea

Draw and decorate/colour a fish or a sea creature - could you display this in your window for passers by to see?

Tuesday

Phonics

Today I would like you choose a book and play I spy with the pictures in the book. E.g. I spy with my little eye something beginning with 'sssss' - be sure to use the soft sound and not the letter name.

Maths

Your maths challenge for today is, using only 2D shapes, can you draw some different animals/objects. For example can you create a train using rectangles and squares or a rocket using rectangles, triangles and circles?

Curriculum

If you have a fish tank, get your child to draw a picture of it. Look carefully at the different colours and patterns. Each fish might have different markings on it. If you don't have a fish tank, find a moving picture or video of a fish tank online or draw a picture of an imaginary fish tank full of fish with different patterns and markings.

Writing Activity

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well and enjoying the sunshine. For your writing activity today we would like you watch the youtube cartoon of the 'Rainbow Fish' story that we have been doing in class. After watching it, try to remember as many sea creatures from the film as you can, make a list of them and if you'd like a bit of a challenge, see if you can write a sentence about one of them either describing what they looked like or what they did in the story.

Maths

Today for your maths activity I would like you to try and get outside, if you have a garden then go on a hunt to try and find some sticks or stones and then see what shapes you can make using the sticks and stones, is it easier to create a circle shape using sticks or stone? Why is this do you think? If you can't get outside or don't have a garden I would like you to use some objects from your house to create some shapes, can you use some spoons to make a square? Can you create a rectangle using pencils or pens? Describe your shape to an adult and explain how you made it.

Understanding the World

Whilst you are outdoors can you try and spot as many signs of spring as you can. Try to remember some of the things we discussed in class such as the warmer weather, the buds on the trees and the flowers growing. If you are unable to get outside then look out of your window, can you spot any signs of spring from where you are?

Thursday

Phonics

Hello everyone, Hope you are all well. Isn't it lovely having some sunshine. Hope you've been able to feel it through your windows. Here is Thursday's work. A little early I know but wanted to make sure I got it right.

For phonics today, I have found a little game online. We have played it in school but using magnetic letters. It's the one where we have a word like pin and then have to change one of the letters to make another word. So I could take off the p and put a t to make tin, then take off the i and put in an a to make tan. See how many words you can make. If you want a challenge, try the one with sh,ch and th.

Maths

For Maths today, we are going to look at 3D shapes. We started this last week. Do you remember?

Have a look at the pictures below and then watch The Singing Walrus...3D shapes. We watched him last week too. Parents, I have had trouble with the direct link, so sorry but if you type in utube singing walrus 3D shapes, it seems to work then.

Which shape isn't included in the song?

Now can you find something in the house that is a cube, cone, cylinder or sphere. Put them near your screen. Watch the clip again and this time hold up each shape as you hear it in the song. How did you do? You have to be quite quick don't you.

Expressive Arts and Design.

Using any construction toys you have, see if you can create a sea creature. Take some photos if you can. We would love to see them. Maybe you could display them in the window with the picture of your sea creature. I went for an exercise walk yesterday and saw some other children's work from another school. It put a smile on my face so I think your neighbours would love to see your creations on their exercise walk.

Understanding of the world.

Whilst it's still warm try some floating and sinking some objects. Can you make some objects tht float, sink? What did you do? Tell your adult what you did and get them to write it down in your book.

Hope you have fun today while you're learning and we'll have some more activities for you tomorrow.

Friday

Good Morning. It's Friday!! Have a lovely day and hope you enjoy the learning activities for today.

Phonics

For phonics today, we would like you to practise your letter formation. The handwriting sheet in the pack we gave you last week will hopefully help.  Parents could you please draw lines in the book for the children. Remember start on the line and don't forget the hook.

Parents, I will try and write down the directions we use as the children are practising. Please use the handwriting sheet in the pack as the font here, is different. Allow the children to practise the letter several times.

i-start on the line, go up, back down and hook. Dot to finish.

l-start on the line, go up to the top, back down and hook.

t-start on the line, go up to the top, backdown and hook. Cross to finish.

Super. How did you do? Right now we would like you to write some words using these letters and your phonetic knowledge. The words are- it, fish, fin, flick, chill, tap, still,

Maths

As a little warm up, write numbers 0-20.

Yesterday, we looked at 3D shapes. How did you get on? Did you find all the shapes in the house. I have to be honest, I found the cone the hardest shape to find. What about you?

Remember the slide show from yesterday. Have another look at it. Get an adult to hide the name. Can you remember the names?

Today, have some slips of paper and a pencil ready. Go on another shape hunt. Everytime you see one of the 3D shapes, write it's name using your phonetic knowledge and place the label on it. Parents, it's really important to allow the children to use their phonetic knowledge. It doesn't matter at this stage if it is not spelt correctly. The important thing is their confidence in having a go and using their phonetic knowledge. If they can't remember the letter for the sound or the digraph (2 letters that make a sound), let them use the phonetic mats in the learning pack.

How many of each shape did you find? Which shape did you find the most? Which shape did you find the least?

Personal. Social and Emotional Development

Can you retell the story of the Rainbow Fish to your adult? Don't worry if you can't, have another watch and then have a go.

The sparkly scales were his most prized possession. What are your most prized possessions? Draw pictures of them and then use your phonetic knowledge to label your picture. Use your phonetic mats to help you write each label. Challenge: Write a sentence to explain why you love it so much.

Physical Development

On my exercise walk this morning, I noticed lots of cracks in the pavement. In PE, we were balancing along the benches. Maybe on your exercise walk today, you could try and walk along the cracks in the pavement, between paving stones or along grass verges but on the pavement side please. Could you carefully walk backwards along them if an adult helps you?

Well Children, it's the weekend now. Have fun and stay safe. See you on Monday!
