Easter Activities

Hello Everyone, It's the start of the Easter holidays. Here are some activities for you to do. Some reading and Maths to keep you on your toes and some other activities to keep you busy.

Parents, please don't feel any pressure to do these activities (although practising reading, letter formation and numbers would be great, a couple of times a week). After all it is the holidays. These activities are just here to help you if you want it. Hope you find it helpful.

Literacy

1) Play this phonics game. Have a go at any from set 1-7. For a challenge choose the digraphs on the left hand side. Parents, we have been learning sh, ch, th, ay, ow, oo, oy, igh, or, ir, ee.

2) Do you remember this game from week 1? Practise your blending skills by making lots of new words.

3) Keep practising your reading by choosing a book from the Oxford Owl website (link below) As we are unable to change your books every week this will be a good site for you to check weekly as you can read a range of books from there that match our phonics. Choose one you think you will be able to read and then read it to your parents, siblings, dog or whoever else will listen! There is a huge range to choose from, most of you should be choosing from the 4-5 age band however some of you may want an extra challenge and will choose an older age band. All you have to do is register first before you can access them.

4) Can you make a reading Den. It could be inside or outside. Take your teddies and your favourite books to share with them. Maybe you could help your adult to make a healthy snack to have in your den. What did you choose for your healthy snack.

5) Practise our tricky red words. You could practise writing them in something messy (sorry parents) or play word Popcorn.

This is how you play Popcorn.

You will need small pieces of paper with one of these words written on them. Get an adult to write the words for you.  Make sure the words are folded up and put them into a cup.

Either you or an adult puts their hand over the cup and shakes them. You then shout 'Popcorn' and the words are thrown up into the air.

Our Tricky Red words have been I, the, my, are, you, said, your, be, of, no, she, he, me and they.

If you know all of the above really well try these: said, do, so, out, one and like.

6) Practise writing the letters in spring. Don't forget to start on the line and have a hook at the end.. Get an adult to draw the lines for you

Practise writing the letters in easter.

Maths

1) Have a go at some of these number activities in this Easter booklet by Twinkl.Parents, this booklet is from the Twinkl website. They are offering parents free access for a month so it shouldn't cost you anything to print out. If, you can't print it ou

2) Again on Twinkl, there's a great 3D shape hunt. Parents, if you want to get the children moving in this activity, get them to find the shapes around the house again. Can they remember the names?

3) A great way to practise counting. If you are counting carefully, have a go at reading the number word.

Easter

1) Easter is a festival that is special to Christians.

Have a watch of these clips which show how a boy about your age celebrates Easter.

2) Have you tried a hot cross bun? They are delicious. Try one toasted. Help an adult toast one. Does it look different? Does it taste different?

3) On your exercise walk today, maybe you could pick some daisies and dandelions and create your own Easter Garden. Don't forget to wash your hands when you get in from your walk and when you have finished your garden. You could wash you hands to the Hot Cross Bun song.

4) Could you create a picture in sand or flour like the man in the 'Celebrating Easter'clip does?

If you haven't got sand or flour as I know it is hard to get at the moment, maybe try it in some mud.

5) You could create your own chicks. Have a look on Twinkl, there are some crafty ideas on there.

Parents, these crafts are from the Twinkl website. They are offering parents free access for a month so it shouldn't cost you anything to print out.

5) On my exercise walk yesterday, I noticed lots of twigs on the floor. Think it was from all that windy weather in February. Today on your exercise walk, collect some twigs to make a bird's nest in your garden. Don't forget to wash your hands when you get in from your walk and when you have finished your nest. You could wash you hands to the Hot Cross Bun song

When you have finished your nest, you could make some colourful eggs to go in it. You could make the eggs using marbled play doh (See the link below) or find some egg shaped stones or rocks and paint them.

Maybe you could make your nest at the front of your house to cheer up others on their exercise walk.

Make sure an adult is with you to make sure you are safe and help you with social distancing.

6) Eggs are good for you. They are an amazing food. They are healthy because they help you grow big and strong. They can be cooked in many different ways.

You can boil, fry, scramble, poach or turn them into an omelette.

Over the holiday, you could help your adult cook them in different ways. Have a taste. Do they taste different? Which way do you like the best? Which way do you like the least? Ask your family how they like their eggs cooked.

7) This one is a messy activity so will need to be done outside. Ask an adult to hard boil an egg for each member of your family. Everyone decorates their own. Then have a rolling competition. Who can roll their egg the furthest? Whose egg can roll the most times before it cracks or falls apart.

8) Can you make an Easter basket out of your construction toys? Can you make an Easter basket out of old boxes and decorate it? Can you use it? Will it carry things? Test your basket out ready for the big day. Children, please don't use real eggs to test your baskets!!

9) Have you got a toy bunny. Doesn't matter if you haven't, you can use any toy for this game. You can play it with your brothers and sisters. Take it in turns to hide the bunny and let the others try to find it.

10) Easter is a special celebration for Christians. Christians usually celebrate in churches. Can you find some pictures of churches? Can you build one using your construction toys? Don't forget, when you have finished to put it in your window to show everyone.

If you are looking for pictures on the internet. Remember to do it with an adult.

1) Vasahki is a Sikh festival. Have a look at the clips below to find out more.

2) Have a go at some Bhangra dancing. Here's a clip from a dance school in India.

Spring

1) Listen to these springtime stories.

Parents, one of the aspects of the Early Years curriculum is listening to stories with out pictures. This activity could be used along with Buddy Breathing (See link below) with a favourite Teddy.

2) Play this game down on the farm.

It's Spring , when the farmer does most of his planting of seeds. If you can get hold of any seeds, plant some in pots. If you can't, see if you can plant seeds from an apple or pears. Wonder what would happen if you planted a potato? Don't forget to water them!

3) There's a whole area on Cbeebies to do with Spring. Have a look.

4) Watch Percy The Park Keeper and find out what he and his friends get up to in Spring.

Can you make a maze for your toys using old boxes, cushions, throws, construction toys?

There's a few other stories about Percy the Park Keeper on U Tube. They're a little grainy but still good. Get an adult to check the stories first.
